Honda Del Sol A/C Accumulator

The Honda Del Sol A/C Accumulator helps to keep the cabin cool by filtering the moisture as well as the excess oil and debris before the refrigerant returns to the compressor. Shaped like a compact cylinder, this part is located in the line between the evaporator and the compressor and it catches the liquids and contaminants so that only the clean vapor can move on, protecting the key air conditioning parts from corrosion and hydraulic damage. In every Del Sol engine bay, the A/C Accumulator remains tucked close to the fender for easy access. Every Honda model of this sporty two-seater uses the same single-tube design, and drivers will not encounter multiple versions to compare, although later units gained sturdier rust-resistant materials with the same hose connections. Because the A/C Accumulator also contains a small charge of refrigerant oil, its sealed desiccant bag must not become wet, so once the system is opened, the A/C Accumulator should be replaced to prevent moisture from becoming acid. This simple configuration ensures that Honda reliability matches Del Sol simplicity, as the unique Del Sol cabin can be kept comfortable, as a neglected A/C Accumulator may cause weak cooling, noisy operation, and premature compressor failure.

Honda Del Sol A/C Accumulator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the A/C Accumulator for the Honda Del Sol?
    A:
Have the refrigerant discharged by a dealership service department or automotive air conditioning repair facility. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. If the radio in your vehicle is equipped with an anti-theft system, make sure you have the correct activation code before disconnecting the battery. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the A/C Accumulator and cap the open fittings to prevent dirt and moisture entry. With the air conditioning system operating, inspect the sight glass in the top of the A/C Accumulator - If the refrigerant looks foamy, it's low. To remove the A/C Accumulator, disconnect both refrigerant line fittings and loosen the A/C Accumulator bracket pinch bolt. Remove the A/C Accumulator bracket bolt and lift the A/C Accumulator out of the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal. Have the system evacuated, charged and leak tested by a dealership service department or automotive air conditioning repair facility. If the A/C Accumulator was replaced, add 1/3 ounce of refrigerant oil.
