Honda Del Sol Power Steering Pump

Honda Del Sol Power Steering Pump provides the compact sports car with light and confident steering by converting the engine rotation into hydraulic pressure that multiplies the driver's input at the wheel. Mounted to the engine and spun by a belt, the Power Steering Pump takes fluid from its fluid reservoir, which is pressurized and then sent by a high-pressure hose to the control valve in the rack and pinion where flow is directed to one side of a steering cylinder so the wheels can pivot with little effort. In early Del Sol models, the system is strictly hydraulic; that is, the steering feel changes primarily with engine speed and pump design. Later Honda Del Sol versions retain the basic setup with the addition of an electronic controller that reads vehicle speed and steering angle and then adjusts a modulating valve on the Power Steering Pump to provide generous assist for parking and a firmer feel for highway pace to satisfy the enthusiasts who dislike overboosted feedback. Regardless of generation, the Power Steering Pump relies on intact seals, the correct tension of the belts, and the correct level of fluid to remain quiet and responsive while leaks, whining, or squeals or heavy low-speed steering is a warning of a decline in performance. Del Sol drivers love that this small, sturdy Power Steering Pump component preserves the vibrant handling nature their Honda sports coupe is known for without taxing their arms during everyday maneuvers.

Honda Del Sol Power Steering Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to disconnect and replace the power steering pump on Honda Del Sol?
    A:
First, remove the negative cable then remove the positive cable, if the stereo unit has an anti theft system then ensure to have the correct code for the stereo. Then, remove all the fluid hoses at the pump: unscrew the pressure line bolts and delete the return line clamp; remove the adjuster bolt and the mounting bolts: it is necessary to know that the return hose is fastened with the spring-type clamp but the pressure line is fastened with two bolts. Securing one end of the hose with your hands, pinch the other end to shut it, and do the same thing for the second hose, and put a fresh O-ring on the end of the Pressure line. Subsequently, loosen the adjusting bolts of the pump and other mounting bolts to unload the pump and withdrawal it from the engine. When doing the installation the process is done in reverse order of the removal process, and the power steering system must be bled while at the same time tightening the drive belt.
