Honda Prelude Brake Light
The Honda Prelude Brake Light is a dramatic method of reducing the likelihood of a rear-end accident by alerting traffic behind that the car is slowing or stopping. Since federal rules from 1986 required that every new car carry a Center High Mount Stop Lamp, every Honda and especially each sporty Prelude received a third Brake Light set on the centerline of the rear glass or deck lid, so that it cannot be mistaken for the corner lamps. This high-mounted Brake Light unit illuminates simultaneously with the two lower lamps to form an unmistakable triple light signal that grabs attention at eye level. Over the years there would be styling tweaks on the Prelude, but two major layouts emerged, a window-mounted strip on the early generations and a compact spoiler-integrated housing on the later ones, both with identical purpose and wiring simplicity. The Brake Light also contains bright, direct fit bulbs or LEDs, which are protected in tough lenses and are tinted in some versions to reduce glare while remaining DOT compliant. Easy plug-in connectors allow a driver to quickly replace a failed lamp, so all three brake signals will shine together for maximum safety. - Q: How to address a situation where one or both brake lights are inoperative or very dim on Honda Prelude?A:In a case where only one brake light is out, test for battery voltage and ground at brake light bulb socket by pressing the brake pedal; if the above is present replace the bulb. If both brake light bulbs do not work, then apply the brake pedal and measure for battery voltage and ground at the brake light bulb socket; if available replace both bulbs. If specific voltage is missing it has to check the brake light switch adjustment and has to make the required adjustments. For cases where either or both of the brake lights are very faint, apply a press on the brake pedal and then measure across the brake light bulb socket and if the value measured is real close to the battery v, that means there is a bad ground because of a bad wire, terminal, bulb or bulb socket. This can be a painted surface and the mounting surface may require to be cleaned to ensure it mounts on metal bare. If battery voltage is low, there can be a weak connection due to a faulty brake light switch, a loose or damaged or corroded wire/terminal/electrical connector.
