    Q:
How to remove the Camshaft on V6 engine on Honda Crosstour? Posted by Customer
    A:
To gain access to the valve covers and the timing belt with sprockets there is a necessity to disconnect the ignition coils. Then you have to pull out the rocker arms and shafts as a set, and while doing it check the camshaft end play and then hold out the camshafts. To reach the rear plate of the camshaft you must first remove the EGR valve and the camshaft retainer plate. Slowly withdrawal the camshaft from the cylinder head making sure that the lobes and journals are not damaged in the process. When loosening the rocker arms and springs from the rocker shafts ensure that you take note of the position of the shafts, then secure the naked rocker shafts to the cylinder head and tighten. Measure the camshaft end play by using a dial indicator and make a record of it, and then compare it; if the end play is more, then the camshaft has to be replaced. Following check of endplay, remove the camshaft and attempt to take journal diameters and lobe heights, if deficiencies are evidenced. If accessible, or if the timing belt is being renewed, the camshaft oil seals should be replaced: remove the rear timing belt covers; soaking the lips of the new seal in oil, fit it to the camshaft; refit the covers. Ensure that the camshaft is clean then lubricate the journals and the lobes and then slowly and carefully fits it back into its rightful place in the cylinder head. Place a new O-ring at the last threaded hole of the camshaft retainer plate and fasten the retainer plates. Do the same for the second camshaft and reassemble all parts in a reverse manner. Lastly, engage the engine and ensure there are no oil leaks on the camshaft seals then let the engine to idle for few minutes to ensure that it is functioning as required and also this will help to bleed air from the lost motion assemblies acknowledging the fact that there will be tapping noise on the tappets during the first few minutes.
