How should engine mounts be inspected and replaced on 2.2L four cylinder engine on Honda Passport?

Engine mounts are non-adjustable and seldom require service, but they should be periodically inspected for hardness, cracks in the rubber, and separation of the rubber from the metal backing. To replace the engine mounts with the engine in the vehicle, first loosen the nuts and bolts that retain the left and right mounting insulators to the engine mount brackets and to the frame on both sides. Next, the weight of the engine must be taken off the engine mounts, which can be done from beneath using a jack and wooden block positioned under the oil pan, or from above by removing the air cleaner and using an engine hoist attached to the two engine brackets. The engine should be raised slowly and carefully while keeping a constant check on clearances around the engine to prevent anything from binding or breaking, paying particular attention to areas such as the fan, ignition coil wires, vacuum lines leading to the engine, and rubber hoses and ducts. Raise the engine just enough to provide adequate room to remove the mounting insulator, then remove the nuts and bolts retaining the insulator and lift it out, noting how it was installed. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring the insulator is positioned the same way it was before removal.
