To check camshaft endplay, with the camshaft installed, reinstall the
Rocker Arm assembly after removing the rocker arms. Mount a dial indicator on the cylinder head with the pointer resting on the camshaft nose, using a large screwdriver as a lever to move the camshaft forward and backward while noting the dial indicator reading. Compare this reading with the specified endplay; if excessive, replace the thrust cover and recheck, as stiffness may indicate wear in the camshaft or cylinder head. For camshaft runout, support the camshaft with V-blocks and set up a dial indicator against the center bearing journal, rotating the camshaft to note the runout and comparing it to specifications; replace the camshaft if the runout exceeds limits. To remove the camshaft, first remove the ignition coils and
Valve Cover, set the engine at TDC for cylinder number one, and remove the
Timing Chain. Unscrew the sprocket bolt while holding the camshaft in place, then remove the camshaft position sensor and thrust cover before sliding the camshaft out. Inspect the camshaft bearing journals and caps for wear, replacing the cylinder head if necessary, and check the cam lobes for scoring and uneven wear, replacing the camshaft if wear is found. Inspect rocker arms for wear and ensure proper lubrication to prevent future issues. For installation, clean all components thoroughly, lubricate the camshaft bearing surfaces and lobes with assembly lubricant, then install the camshaft, thrust cover, position sensor, and sprocket, ensuring proper alignment of marks. Rotate the crankshaft to verify alignment after two complete revolutions, and complete the installation in reverse order of removal.
