Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, then remove the
Starter Motor. Next, disconnect the large wire from the solenoid to the starter motor terminal. Remove the screws securing the solenoid to the starter motor gear housing and detach the solenoid from the gear housing, ensuring to take out the solenoid mounting bolts from the starter unit. While the solenoid is off, check the overrunning clutch by sliding it along its shaft; if it doesn't move freely or slips when the armature is rotated while holding the drive gear, replace the clutch assembly. If the gear is worn or damaged, replace the complete overrunning clutch assembly, as the gear isn't available separately. Additionally, inspect the flywheel or driveplate ring gear for damage if the starter gear teeth are damaged. Finally, installation is the reverse of removal.
