While the solenoid is off, check the overrunning clutch by sliding it along its shaft; if it doesn't move freely or slips when the armature is rotated while holding the drive gear, replace the clutch assembly. If the gear is worn or damaged, replace the complete overrunning clutch assembly, as the gear isn't available separately. Additionally, inspect the flywheel or driveplate ring gear for damage if the starter gear teeth are damaged. Finally, installation is the reverse of removal.
